For the study of historical lexicon

In-house seminar

The intervention presents some proposals and study perspectives with reference to the History of the Lexicon. Firstly, we intend to focus on the concept of “position” of the word within the architecture of the vocabulary and, of such a position, to evaluate the stability or the change in diachrony through the comparison between language states. In particular, through the exemplification of emblematic lexical cases, the results of the statistical analysis conducted on contemporary Italian are compared with the data obtainable from the investigation of the ancient lexicon, on the basis of the documentation collected in the textual corpora. Secondly, the implications are indicated and the possible lines of development that this type of research brings with itself are outlined, especially in relation to the issues concerning the lexical change.
