Piattaforma Integrata di Monitoraggio dell'ambiente marino

Type of project: Regional  |  Start date: 01/07/2018  |  End date: 30/06/2020

This industrialization project aims at creating an IT infrastructure for monitoring and forecasting data and the marine environment to support activities concerning the environmental management and planning, the planning of the space and marine environment, the defense, security and management of emergencies.

The project will extend the experiences and observational systems developed within the DLTM framework (e.g. RIMA) and in the framework of European projects (e.g. EMODnet) and offer an operational module to the MARE DLTM Laboratory.

The platform will be able to manage heterogeneous data from different sources (big data), integrate new devices through OGC SWE interfaces and respond to the needs of accessibility and interoperability (open data) required by recent European directives.

The proposed system is located in an international context where coastal integrated systems are more and more relevant (e.g. IMOS, OOI, IOOS, SOCIB, COSYNA, …), which represent the reference point for the acquisition of monitoring and management information and offer the operational context to develop new themes and technologies.

A public module of the technological platform will make the data received available and interoperable in order to respond to directives and standards (INSPIRE, OGC etc.).

To facilitate the integration of new modules and platforms, it will be equipped with SWE (sensor web enablement) interfaces for the interaction with the remote hw.

A private module will allow the platform customers to exploit the potential offered by the possibility of integrating heterogeneous and multidimensional data sources to carry out activities relating to the planning and management of the local marine environment (downstream of services).

The platform that the project aims to realize responds and contributes to the specific lines of the Smart Specialization Strategy of the Liguria Region, with a particular reference to the specialization on Marine Technologies, and can provide services for the protection of coastal areas and protected marine areas, for the management of emergencies and for the creation of early warning tools based on the integration of heterogeneous data (forecast, monitoring and scenario data).
