The talk will be focused on a large-scale system of natural language analysis and generation, developed in Moscow and called ETAP, which makes use of a number of theoretical findings and specific practical solutions made by the authors of MTT and their colleagues within the Moscow Semantic School. Particular attention will be given to four aspects of the system’s components, tools and performance: (1) a dependency parser; (2) the combinatorial dictionary; (3) lexical functions; (4) ontology-based semantic analysis.

He is Professor and Senior Researcher at the Institute for Information Transmission Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.In his long career he has devoted himself assiduously to the application of the Sense ⇔ Text theory proposed by Igor Mel’čuk in NLP advanced tasks, such as syntactic parsing, automatic translation, paraphrase and lexicon automatic learning system.
