Title:
The Human Factor in Optical Character Recognition Systems – OCR Proof-Reading & Eye Tracking
Date:
29/03/2017
Town:
Pisa
Venue:
ILC-CNR – Aula Seminari IBF SG 5
Description:
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems are software suitable for the conversion of an image containing printed characters into a digital text editable with any type of editor.
The output of these programs not always corresponds to the original text, since some factors (such as the integrity of both paper and text or the use of special characters) can bring these systems to make incorrect evaluations during the conversion process.
To increase the accuracy of the results achivied is therefore necessary to proceed with the manual correction of the text.
Our study aims to identify the visual strategies for the recognition of these mistakes by means of an “eye tracker”, a device recording eye movements and fixing on the screen during experiments of text correction.
During the seminar the methods used and the first results of the pilot project will be expounded.
