Funded by the European Commission in the framework of the "Safer Internet Action Plan", POESIA is a project that aims at developing, testing, evaluating and promoting a fully open-source, updated and extensible software solution for catching and filtering offensive material (pornography, violence etc.) which is available in the Internet.

The POESIA system will filter several channels (the World Wide Web, E-mail and News), by combining highly innovative technologies to achieve more effective results than the ones obtained by means of the products existing in the market.

The filtering process will cover a wide range of modalities (images, texts, URLs, PICs and JavaScript).

The filtering solution will be developed in English, Italian and Spanish but, being it fully open-source, it will be able to be extensed to other languages.

The objective of the project is to make the POESIA system become the standard filtering solution deployed in a school and/or home environment.
