This work reports on a skeletal evaluation of the EAGLES proposal with respect to the Portuguese language. A comparative approach was adopted. As a main basis, the specifications used in the morphological layer developed by ILTEC in the framework of the GENELEX project (Guerreiro (ed), 1994). instantiated in a demonstration lexicon of about 5,000 entries, were taken into account and compared with those provided by EAGLES. Ongoing work on a morphological analyser for the Portuguese language was also taken into account.
