The ELM reports

There are specification reports for German (EAGLES, 1996a), French (EAGLES, 1996c), Italian (EAGLES, 1996d) and -- slightly less detailed -- for English (EAGLES, 1996b) (an appendix of TSM (EAGLES, 1996h)).

The reports give a detailed morphosyntactic description of word forms of these languages, specifying the relevant distinctions at the levels of category agreement features and distributional features.

All reports are parallel in structure. A usage guide explains the descriptive devices and their practical use. Subsequent chapters are devoted to the individual word classes (noun, verb, adjective, etc.) and are again parallel in structure. They contain

  1. A label inventory for the category in question;
  2. A type hierarchy table showing the relevant subclassifications;
  3. A description of the core definition of each class;
  4. Part of speech delimitation tables and feature delimitation tables, allowing operational reproduction of the distinctions proposed;
  5. An example list carrying full annotations according to the EAGLES proposals.

The types (1)-(3) of the documents can be used as a definition of the morphosyntactic specifications, and (3) and (4) support their use as operational guidelines.

The example lists (5) and an alphabetical index of all word forms discussed and annotated in each document allow for an easy and comfortable use as reference works.
