Within adpositions, in Italian only prepositions are used, that
constitute a PoS used to express syntactic relationships
between the phrase components.
Semantic features:
- Each preposition has its respective semantic features. However, its
meaning can be specified on the basis of the relationships
between the components of the NP (head + PP).
- specification: desiderio di gloria;
- place: gita al mare, aereo da Parigi;
- manner: lavoro su commissione;
- scope: alimento per gatti;
- adjunct: panna con cialda;
- reciprocity: rapporti tra colleghi.
Syntactic features:
- the preposition has a subordinating function: the governing component becomes the head and the syntagm - preposition + governed component - becomes the complement.
