{"id":9917,"date":"2022-05-18T11:29:52","date_gmt":"2022-05-18T09:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/about-cnr-ilc\/"},"modified":"2024-01-10T09:03:09","modified_gmt":"2024-01-10T08:03:09","slug":"about-cnr-ilc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/about-cnr-ilc\/","title":{"rendered":"ABOUT CNR-ILC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"lead\">The <strong>Cnr-Istituto di Linguistica Computazionale &#8220;Antonio Zampolli&#8221;<\/strong> (<strong>CNR-ILC<\/strong>) is one of the major leading research centers in the field of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/computational-linguistics\/\"><strong>Computational Linguistics (LC)<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Institute is part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dsu.cnr.it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Cnr-Dipartimento Scienze Umane e Sociali, Patrimonio Culturale<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CNR-ILC<\/strong> has been carrying out <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/lines-of-research\/\">advanced research<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/training\/\">training<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/third-mission\/#trasferimentotecnologico\">technology transfer<\/a><\/strong> activities, together with a wide range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/publishing-activities\/\"><strong>editorial activities<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:13px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Our mission of is to <strong>contribute to the scientific and technological development of strategic areas of Computational Linguistics<\/strong> through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>a <strong>balanced combination of fundamental and applied research<\/strong>, focusing on their impact on society and its socio-economic and cultural development;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>collaboration with research institutes, universities, public bodies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and industries<\/strong> within international, European, national and regional scientific collaboration projects and agreements;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>training of students<\/strong> conducted through teaching activities at Italian and foreign universities and the involvement of PhD students, undergraduates and interns in ongoing research activities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>technology transfer<\/strong> of developed language resources and technologies to SMEs and large national and multinational industries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:13px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Macro-areas of research <\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The current macro-areas of research of <strong>CNR-ILC<\/strong> are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/lines-of-research\/#DH\">Digital Humanities<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/lines-of-research\/#tal\">Natural Language Processing and Knowledge Management<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/lines-of-research\/#risorselinguistiche\">Language Resources, Standards, and Research Infrastructure<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/lines-of-research\/#modellicomputazionali\">(Bio-)Computational Models of language usage<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:13px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its foundation, <strong>CNR-ILC<\/strong> has focused its interests and activities on those research areas that lie at the historical \u201croots\u201d of Computational Linguistics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Humanistic Text Processing (HTP)<\/strong>, using computational methods and techniques to support humanistic research on texts, with a focus on Philology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Natural Language Processing (NLP)<\/strong>, aimed at the analysis of the linguistic structures underlying a text.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the late 1980s, the synergies between the two lines of activity gave rise to a line of research dedicated to the <strong>design and construction of language resources and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\/infrastructures\/\">infrastructures<\/a><\/strong> and <strong>the definition of representation standards<\/strong> shared by the scientific community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More recently, a new line of research focused on the <strong>development of bio-computational models of language and cognition<\/strong> joined forces with these \u201chistorical\u201d lines of activity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cnr-Istituto di Linguistica Computazionale &#8220;Antonio Zampolli&#8221;
