This landscape was prepared in the framework of the ELSNET
project
and network
and was presented for the first time during the Joint COCOSDA/ICCWLRE
Meeting "Building
the Language Resources and Evaluation Roadmap",
held in Lisbon on 30th May 2004 in conjunction
with LREC
2004.
It can
be considered the first landscape of existing language resources
and is to be intended as an instrument to monitor the status
and growth of language resources, with respect to various
parameters including covered languages, resource types and
modality etc..
Although it is preliminary, partial and subject to further
revisions and extensions, it is nevertheless to be regarded
as the first step of an important initiative to promote
and coordinate the field of language resources.
In order that it can become a truly effective instrument
to keep track of the complex dynamics and rapid changes
in the area of Language Resources, it will need a constant
activity of extension.
This way it will be able to provide important input for
every strategic action in this field, by highlighting still
uncovered or weak areas, where to focus investments and
research.
It is also an essential component accompanying the language
resources roadmap.

versions of the landscape have been released:
