The Decree of the Italian Minister of University and Research adopting the National Research Infrastructure Plan (PNIR) 2021-2027 as an integral part of the National Research Program 2021-2027 (PNR) has been published.
The PNIR provides a strategic guidance for policies related to the crucial issue of Research Infrastructures and aims to provide a greater detail on the technical-strategic level, defining and updating national priorities.
Research Infrastructures - i.e. the systems, resources and related services used by the scientific community to carry out high-level research in their respective sectors - are one of the fundamental tools for researchers and are unique environments around which scientific communities come together from different nations and disciplines.
Research Infrastructures are decisive for our ability to make scientific progress and promote innovation and are increasingly becoming the fulcrum of future investments, both public and private, as well as enabling factors for conducting excellent scientific research, to achieve the most challenging objectives set on at European and national level.
The PNIR identifies the priority Research Infrastructures for Italy, adopting European methods and criteria for this purpose, and provides the possibility to systematize what is already present in our country.
In the coming years, the ability to involve all potentially interested parties, from the scientific communities to the private sector and to the various institutions, will be decisive, even more so in view of the start of the new European Cohesion Policy, of the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and of the opportunities offered by the 'Horizon Europe' Research and Innovation Framework Programme.
The European Research Infrastructure Consortium of the Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure (CLARIN ERIC) is one of the 20 European Research Infrastructure Consortia in which Italy takes part thanks to the investment by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) through the Ordinary Fund of Public Research Bodies (FOE), initially assigned on an extraordinary basis and, in recent years, stably structured through the financing item "projects of international significance".
Italy takes part in CLARIN ERIC through the CLARIN-IT National Consortium, of which CNR-ILC is the Founding Member and the Executing Institution, Monica Monachini (Senior Researcher at CNR-ILC) is the National Coordinator and CNR-DSU is the Body of Representation.
