The concept of personalized learning is becoming a dominant theme within the educational policies of the various countries, including Italy. In this regard, the national guidelines for the nursery school and the first cycle of education in 2013 are significant, where there is an explicit reference to the centrality of the person in the learning process and the school is given the purpose of "achieving training courses increasingly responding to the personal inclinations of students, with a view to enhancing the distinctive aspects of each person's personality". For this purpose, digital technologies can make a major contribution to the personalization of the teaching action, allowing the development of new teaching strategies and learning methodologies that exploit the potential of "mobile learning", "blended learning", web 2.0, etc. Within this context, the project aims to define new methodologies based on the use of language technologies for the creation of distance training courses that can be personalized at different levels. The result will be the development of a profiling system for didactic materials that can be used within e-learning platforms able to evaluate their adequacy with respect to the linguistic skills of the students and with respect to the reading device (tablet, pc, smartphone) from which course can be used. For each of the two dimensions, the degree of adequacy of the materials will be assessed both from the point of view of the linguistic complexity of the study texts and from the point of view of the proposed contents. Objectives of the project will be the definition and adaptation of new algorithms based on automatic language processing tools to evaluate the complexity of the text and the contents proposed in the courses with respect to the skills of the users who will take advantage of the courses and the methods of use offered by various devices.
