Up: type-value poss
Previous: type-value poss
- An adjective has the type-value
possessive adjective if it has the features number of possessor
and person of possessor. The other types of adjectives don't have these
features.
Given X an adjective, If X has Pos=sg or Pos=pl and prs=1 or prs=2 or prs=3,
X is a possessive adjective.
- Ce livre est mien/pos=a & type=poss & gen=m & num=sg & Pos=sg & prs=1
- Ce livre est nôtre/pos=a & type=poss & gen=m & num=sg & Pos=pl & prs=1
- Possessive adjectives can only occupy the position after a copula verb.
Remark: This criterion is necessary but not sufficient, because it exists other types of adjectives
which cannot occupy a position in a nominal phrase.
Given X an adjective, NP a nominal syntagm, Det a determiner, N a noun;
If NP(Det+X+N) or NP(Det+N+X) is not possible, X may be a possessive adjective.
- *Ce livre mien/pos=a & type=poss & gen=m & num=sg & Pos=sg & prs=1
- *Ce mien/pos=a & type=poss & gen=m & num=sg & Pos=sg & prs=1 livre
- Possessive adjectives denote the relation between an
object and its possessor. The features gender and number of the possessive adjective
accord with the gender and number of the noun to which the adjective is related, and the
features person and number of possessor refer to the grammatical person of the possessor.
- Ce livre est mien/pos=a & type=poss & gen=m & num=sg & Pos=sg & prs=1 /
