Central semantic of value article

Morphological criterion

  1. An article is a determiner which belongs to one of the paradigms le (definite article), un (indefinite article) or du (partitive article). Remark: We don't make the distinction between the indefinite article un and the cardinal determiner un. We consider un always as indefinite article.

Test

Given X a determiner, If X belongs to one of the paradigms le, un or du , X is an article.

Syntactic criterion

  1. Like determiners, articles occupy the left end of a nominal syntagm.
